..Why do they do this?! Why does my psycho hamsters (though I'm pretty sure Karenina is the only villian here) kill theire kids? They've got space, they've got food. Could it be that the kids are some sort of threat to the parents? Or is Karenina purely retarded & mean?

..Varför gör dom såhär?! Varför mördar mina jävla psykopathamstrar (är relativt säker dock på att mamma Karenina är den enda boven i detta drama) sina barn? Dom har utrymme, dom har käk. Kan det vara så att barnen av päronen upplevs vara hot? Eller är Karenina mest efterbliven & ondskefull?

Jag är inte 100% säker, men jag vill minnas att jag har läst att nervösa och paranoida hamstermammor käkar upp sina barn för att bespara dom från den traumatiska uppväxten som mamma tror att dom kommer att få. Det kan med andra ord vara en rad olika orsaker, allt från att du inte gör rent buren eller ger dom ny mat på tider som är tillräckligt regelbundna till att du har läskig färg på tapeten typ.
Dock är jag inte hundra på det, lite googling borde hjälpa dig. :)

Fast det är just det att jag inte kan komma på någonting som dom skulle kunna störa sig på. Buren hålls ren, maten kommer regelbundet, vattnet byts konstant, det är praktiskt taget bara jag som är i min lägenhet så det är inte värsta action här heller. Men Karenina verkar fan CP i skallen så hon verkar ju ha fötts paranoid. Tänkte googla sen men jag pallar inte nu för snart biter jag fan av mitt eget huvud, eller nåt.
Nej... Det låter fan jobbigt! Å andra sidan minns jag en händelse med ett gäng höns i stallet som kastade sina kycklingar i luften för att... Ja. You know. Det berodde på att det "blev vinter" igen. Massa snö och -20 på en vecka. Hamstar bor ju iofs inne, så det scenariot verkar ju dock osannolikt...

Kan vara så att Karenina känner sig hotad av de andra hamstrarna.. och för att skydda dom så äter hon upp dom.
The short answer is that hamsters are evil egoistic sadistic bastards. The slightly longer answer is that in nature hamsters have several square kilometers to themselves, and only generaly run into another hamster when it's time to make new hamsters. Children are kicked out by the mother after only a few weeks. They also tend to ripp each other to very small bits when they fight. It is very unusual that hamsters who aren't mates or siblings can live together for any length of time.

But this kind of hamster wants company, it's not one of those big loner hamsters. The one's I've got should be 2 or more, so it's kinda strange =S
I'm sure the mated couple gets along just fine, but since the babies are getting killed something is causing it. The only way I have found to stop it from happening is to give away any babies as soon as they can survive without the mother. Since as you may have noticed it is not exactly a fun job to clean up after a hamster killing spree...been there done that way to many times...it has gone so far that I don't mix and match hamsters anymore. Either they live together already when they arrive at my place or I simply give them more attention to compensate for the lack of a friend.

They lived together & were 'sisters' when I bought them but hell no, obviously, one of them were a male :O So the trouble started. But it's a good idea, sadly they've gotten killed during the period of growing up so they've been too young to separate. But the female, Karenina, is also picking on the male. & my gut feeling tells me she's the one responsible for the dead youngsters. It can't be she's kinda fucked up & isn't very fond of company though she 'should' be that 'coz she's that kind of hamster? 'Coz the other hamsters are very friendly to everyone. Karenina isn't.
It could be so simple that you got a hamster thats bat-shit crazy. Last one I had that was like that I fed to a cat after he killed my favorite hamster (and 3 others). Big misstake on his part.
